Winter wonderland

Well , as you can probably guess things are pretty cold here ! I know some of you get to -20 but for us it is unusual to remain below zero for long ( if at all , soft southerners!) but we have not got above -4 for the last 3 days and life is truly cold and white ......

The animals are beginning to find it hard , and it has significantly increased the workload and the payroll, since we are having to feed hard mix and hay which we would not normally do all day everyday - hay yes , but warm sugar beet only for lactating mums and those who have lost a bit of condition. Still they are reluctant to come in at night , but since we are predicted snow on Monday that may change . What were you saying about a mild winter Eliane ??

We have fires lit at both ends of the house and DH is good at getting logs , and before you ask , they are not PJ's hes wearing but a particularly natty pair of 'slouching around the house' trousers !

Tom has a pair of those too! It wasn't me who said it was going to be mild, it was the Met Office. Honest. Clearly wrong. It is damn cold here too right now but sounds like it's colder round the corner. I'm cheating and have the heating on at the moment.

we , too , are using our heating - until the boys go back to school and them I can go back to heating small areas as before , that is , if the predicted snow allows us to go back to school !? yuk.

You have my sympathy... I covered for my brother on the farm for a week over new year and the cold weather doesn't make it easy at all! Looking forward to seeing pics of your new baby alpacas x
